Born December 28, 1856 died February 3, 1924. He was the 28th president of the U.S. Born in Staunton, Virginia, on December 28, 1856. He grew up on the family farm. Wilson briefly attended Davison University in North Carolina, but transferred to Princeton University and graduated there in 1879. In 1902, he was named president of Princeton. He strongly favored an educational system that promoted a close relationship between teachers and students. While he was president of Princeton University , Wilson had discouraged blacks from even applying for admission, preferring to keep the peace among white students than have black students admitted.
Wilson won the presidential election of 1912 when William Howard Taft and Theodore Roosevelt split the Republican vote. Woodrow Wilson's plan for reform was called New Freedom. He wanted to eliminate trusts between businesses completely, he wanted to give citizens a more powerful voice in the government, and he wanted to continue Roosevelt's conservation of national parks. To increase fairness in the economy he made, changes in banking procedures, taxes on imported goods, & laws against monopolies.
In this political cartoon Wilson is trying to get away from the tiger which is the representative of Tammany Hall. This shows he is trying to avoid mixing with the political machines and showing his independence and honesty.
